Welcome to our Web site!We became interested in Teardrop trailers after seeing one at a local car show. After that first viewing of the tiny trailer we knew we had to have one of our own !! The search was then on to find an original trailer to restore. We finally located a 1946 KIT Mfg. trailer in Eastern Ohio and after the usual price negotiations it was purchased for $800.00. Loaded up on a trailer and transported home, the trailer sat for another two years out behind the hangar until the restoration process could begin. The frame of the trailer was in remarkably good shape. The body however was another story. The wood was very poor and dry rot was a major problem. The only solution was to tear the whole thing apart and start to rebuild from scratch. The skins made excellent templates. The project took 7 months to complete, although I don't think it will ever be "done". Every time I turn around I make small additions which make the trailer more to our liking. One of the modifications I made was to put in cabinets in the cabin instead of use the original shelf that the KIT trailers were built with. I also added a small battery which will power an interior light and a light on the galley hatch. The battery charges from the tow vehicle when you are on the road. I used as many of the parts from the demolition as possible which made the process go a little faster and added to the originality.
